The Robin Hood Association is a major provider of affordable housing in Strathcona County. Sherwood Park seriously lacks affordable housing for many populations, including people with developmental disabilities.  Our present intake waiting list includes approximately 30 individuals requiring affordable housing and residential services within the next three years.

The development of the Aspen Village facility will allow more individuals to receive services using existing residential facilities.  With a decline in the labor pool, our ability to meet the residential needs of our clientele requires an approach that will ensure a high quality of life, while maximizing the resources we do have.

The primary target resident for the Aspen Village site will be people with developmental disabilities who are generally over the age of 45 years and have mobility challenges.

Project Update

After 10 months of construction and years of planning, Aspen Village is finally operational. Our first residents moved in on Tuesday, March 23rd. A huge vote of thanks to the site superintendant, Bruce Tuininga and his crew and sub trades who worked extremely hard to get the project to a point where move -in was possible on the scheduled date. The flooring crew worked until 4am one night and was back on the job at 6am. Amazing and greatly appreciated. Many thanks also to Lyle Rabel, our contractor for the Children & Youth Community Centre. He and his crew did a lot to get the building finished.

There are so many Robin Hood staff that deserve commendation for their work in planning, coordinating and executing this major move. So many staff put in extra time and effort to ensure a seamless relocation. Your care and commitment is sincerely appreciated. I would like to list the names of all our staff that performed above and beyond the call of duty, but I would surely miss someone. I will however identify Susan Ratzlaff and Neil White for their outstanding contribution to the Aspen Village project. I have seen firsthand the knowledge and hard work that Neil brought to the construction of the facility and the selection of equipment and furniture. Ann Marie LePan, our Director of Adult Services, includes her commendation to Susan and her team for their expertise, organizational ability and hard work in making the relocation plan work so well.

An official opening will be held in the spring.
