WHO WE ARE

For more than six decades, the Robin Hood Association has adapted, innovated, and remained focused on person-centred supports. As our community has evolved, we have continued to grow and refine our services to deliver meaningful outcomes for the individuals and families we serve.

Since 1963, RHA has expanded significantly in both scope and scale. Today, we employ nearly 800 staff, with approximately 82% working in Community Disability Services, funded through Alberta Health Services and Alberta Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services.

We currently support more than 360 adults and approximately 350 children and families. Within our adult services, 52 individuals with developmental disabilities are supported in their home community of Fort Saskatchewan.

Volunteers also play a vital role in all aspects of our organization including participation on the Board, involvement in service delivery and engagement in fundraising initiatives and events.

We depend on the support of individuals, businesses and community groups to continue to deliver quality services to the people we serve.

OUR HISTORY

RHA has a 63 year history of service excellence in supporting adults and children with disabilities. We are steadfast in our commitment to listen to the voices of the people we serve, and the parents and families who support them.

It was Colonel E.W. and Dr. Barbara Cormack's determination to create a better future for their son, George, that catalyzed the forming of RHA in 1963. The first project undertaken by the Association was the development of the Robin Hood School, which was originally located in a house in Sherwood Park serving 12 students. Our first major facility was constructed in 1968, and an adult vocational program began in 1974. The Robin Hood Association also opened its first community-based group home that year.

Over the past 63 years, our organization has grown exponentially. We began with a group of 12 students. Today we provide services to 710 children and adults. Over 6 decades, we have adapted and innovated in order to meet the evolving needs of our community, and continue to strive to do so.

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Statement

At Robin Hood Association, the essential principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion guide our mission and shape our impact on the community. Our organization is dedicated to reflecting the rich diversity of Canada and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or identity, has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute.

Justice for All:

We believe in justice that addresses systemic inequalities and promotes fairness. Robin Hood Association is committed to identifying and dismantling barriers that hinder equal access to opportunities, resources, and outcomes. We strive to create a just society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Equity in Action:

We acknowledge that historical and structural inequities exist, and we are committed to working toward eliminating disparities and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the support, resources, and opportunities needed to achieve their full potential.

Diversity as a Strength:

We celebrate and embrace the diversity of our community, recognizing that our differences are a source of strength and innovation. Our commitment to diversity extends beyond representation, fostering an inclusive culture that values and uplifts the unique perspectives, experiences, and identities of all individuals.

Inclusion at the Core:

Inclusion is a fundamental value at Robin Hood Association. We strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging, is heard, and can actively participate. Our programs, services, and initiatives are designed to be accessible and welcoming to all, promoting the full engagement of diverse voices.

Continuous Learning and Improvement:

We are committed to continuous learning and improvement in our JEDI practices. Regular assessments, transparent communication, and responsive adjustments are integral to our commitment to creating an organization that evolves with the changing needs of our community and the broader Canadian landscape.

Accountability to Our Community:

We understand the importance of accountability to our community. We will regularly evaluate our progress, share the outcomes transparently, and actively seek input from our community partners to ensure that our JEDI initiatives are effective and responsive to the evolving needs of our diverse community.

By embracing Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Robin Hood Association aims to be a catalyst for positive change in our community, fostering a society where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
