On Thursday, July 23, Robin Hood Association's Children & Youth Community Centre was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of sunshine as families, staff, and community partners gathered for our annual Children's Summer Carnival.
This much-loved summer tradition provides an opportunity for the children and families we support to come together, connect with one another, and simply enjoy a fun-filled afternoon in a welcoming and inclusive environment for the whole community.
One of the day's biggest highlights was the chance for children to explore emergency vehicles up close. Thanks to the Strathcona County Fire Department, families toured a fire truck and learned about fire safety, while the RCMP welcomed children aboard a police vehicle. A special visit from Sparky the Dog made learning about fire safety even more engaging, with plenty of smiles and high-fives throughout the afternoon.
We are incredibly grateful to Kal Tire for helping make the day extra special by providing popsicles and fun swag for families to enjoy. Their support extends far beyond the carnival, they also generously funded the resurfacing of our sensory playground through a community grant, helping create a safer, more accessible space where children can play, explore, and grow.
The excitement continued throughout the afternoon with something for everyone to enjoy. Bluey, Rapunzel, and Prince Charming delighted children with special appearances, while Bobby Dee wowed families with incredible balloon animals and flowers. Face painting, bouncy castles, water games, bubbles, cornhole, music, hot dogs, and ice cream floats kept the fun going all afternoon. We were also thrilled to welcome 102.3 NOW! Radio, who stopped by with even more popsicles to help everyone cool off in the summer heat.
This wonderful afternoon would not have been possible without the support of the Community Connection Grant from Strathcona County Family and Community Services. Their investment helps create meaningful opportunities for children and families to build connections, make memories, and experience the joy of community.
At Robin Hood Association, we know that events like our Children's Carnival are about more than just games and activities. They create spaces where families can relax, children can try new experiences, friendships can grow, and our community can come together to celebrate inclusion.
Thank you to our staff, volunteers, and community partners who helped make this year's Children's Carnival such a memorable success. Most importantly, thank you to the amazing children and families who joined us, we loved celebrating summer with you and can't wait to see everyone again next year!
