On September 21, 2025, the RHA community came together in Ardrossan, Alberta, for The Great Rural Race. What started as a crisp fall morning quickly warmed up under the sun, making for a perfect day to be outside.
Now in its fourth year, this inclusive event was organized by a small but mighty team of volunteers and proudly sponsored by the Ardrossan Recreation & Agricultural Society. The race welcomed runners, walkers, and rollers of all ages, all coming together to support the Robin Hood Association.
This grassroots, volunteer-powered event highlights our community at its best—fun, inclusive, and meaningful. Every step (or roll!) helps support RHA’s Empowerment Project and the Strathcona Minor Hockey Association.
What began as a casual lunchtime walking group called “Walk O’Clock” has grown into a vibrant, community-wide event. This year’s race raised an outstanding $8,621.32, with $1,250 going to the Strathcona Minor Hockey Association and $7,371.32 supporting Robin Hood Association’s Empowerment Project—bringing the total raised for RHA through this event to $13,493.20!
The day was filled with activities for all ages. Families enjoyed a lively KidZone complete with a bouncy castle, mini golf, and more. A bustling market of local vendors added to the festive atmosphere. Participants also had the chance to tour a Strathcona Fire truck, explore the Strathcona County Library’s Bookmobile, and—new this year—meet Texas, a retired show horse who warmly greeted families. After the race, everyone gathered to enjoy hamburgers and snacks, mingling with friends, family, and neighbours. Raffle prizes, local shopping, and plenty of community spirit made the day truly memorable.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to Chelsea, Nicoll, Jenae, and our generous sponsors at ARAS for their dedication to fostering a more inclusive and supportive community.
Finally, thank you to everyone who participated—your energy, spirit, and support mean the world to us!
