We at RHA are so excited to announce the launch of The Empowerment Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at raising $4 million over the next three years (November 2024 - November 2027). This ambitious project is designed to bring new life to RHA Broadway, a facility that has been at the heart of our community for nearly three decades.
Why RHA Broadway Matters
For almost 30 years, RHA Broadway has been a cornerstone of our services, welcoming over 100 individuals each day. From day programs and outreach services to providing essential respite for working families, this facility plays a pivotal role in fostering independence, inclusion, and connection. In addition to supporting our administrative and transportation teams, RHA Broadway also serves as a flexible space for community events, meetings, and more.
However, with age and extensive water damage taking their toll, RHA Broadway is now in urgent need of revitalization to continue serving the community effectively.
The Empowerment Project: A Critical Initiative
The Empowerment Project aims to restore and upgrade RHA Broadway with essential repairs, energy efficiency improvements, enhanced accessibility, and safety upgrades. These changes are vital to ensure that this central hub can keep meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families well into the future.
As our CEO Ann Marie LePan explains:"RHA Broadway has a special place in my heart. My journey with RHA spans more than 30 years, and I've been privileged to help envision a welcoming community space where everyone can work, learn, play, and grow together. Over the decades, I’ve witnessed countless moments of growth, resilience, joy, challenges, and Good Days within these walls. The Empowerment Project is deeply personal to me. Restoring RHA Broadway means preserving a place of connection and preparing it for future generations. I invite our friends and families to join me in honouring this legacy and ensuring it remains a source of strength and support for years to come."
Key Goals of the RHA Broadway Rehabilitation Project
The revitalization of RHA Broadway focuses on addressing critical structural and accessibility issues, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing safety. Immediate action is necessary to prevent further deterioration and disruption of the services that families rely on daily.
Key Project Goals Include:
Restore Structural Integrity: Repairing roof, wall, and exterior damage to prevent further deterioration.
Enhance Accessibility: Installing automatic doors, touchless sensors, and improved entryways to ensure barrier-free access for all.
Improve Energy Efficiency: Upgrading insulation, roofing, and solar panels (grant funds permitting) to reduce operating costs and reinvest savings into services.
Boost Safety and Security: Enhancing security systems to ensure a safe environment for everyone who enters.
Supporting Other Facilities and Operational Needs
While RHA Broadway is the centrepiece of The Empowerment Project, the initiative also supports ongoing repairs, improvements and operational needs across our other facilities. This includes the Children & Youth Community Centre, Aspen Village Assisted Living Facility, and 56 Shared Homes providing safe, accessible environments for nearly 200 adults. These upgrades are essential to maintaining the high level of care and service that over 350 adults and 414 children and families rely on.
